Working Together: Muslim-Jewish Dialogue

Over one hundred Jewish and Muslim women, including community leaders, congregational religious leaders, educators, social activists and grass-root members came together to share their experiences and discuss co-operation towards greater interfaith interactions in a multi-faith and cohesive society.

The first National Women's Conference was the third of National Muslim-Jewish conferences held between 2006-2007, supported by the department of Communities and Local Government. A Women's Committee was formed to advise, supervise, promote and co-operate in the setting up of the Conference.

The Rt. Hon. Meg Munn MP, Deputy Minister for Women and Equalities addressed the conference saying:

"Many of you will be acting in your own local area, making your own contribution toward social and community cohesion. It is important that faith communities fully use the knowledge and experience of women to effect change."

The conference addressed the issues which directly affect women in both communities as well as representing women's perspectives on general matters in our society. The delegates attended workshops on the following topics:

Mehri Niknam, Mrs. Maha, Anna Cummins, Rosalind Preston OBE, Meg Mann MP, Rabbi Sybil Sheridan and Zareen Roohi Ahmed

There was unanimous agreement for the sustained and continued interactions between the women from both communities and a request for such conferences to take place at least once a year.
